Open House and Pot Luck Dinner

On Monday, September 28th from 5:30—7:30 PM we will be hosting our Annual Open House and Pot Luck Supper. The Open House gives you the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, see the curriculum, and also sign up to volunteer to be on a parent committee or be a classroom parent.

The Pot Luck provides the opportunity to meet, support and socialize with other parents. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the hall so you can sign up to share your family’s culture by bringing in their favorite dish.

We hope you can join us!

School Picture Day

Tuesday, September 22rd is School Picture Day. Teddy Bear Portraits is coming again this year and will begin photographing at 9:00 AM.

Please sign the permission slip, even if you don’t plan to buy, so your child can appear in the school composite that shows all the children.

Two weeks later, from 3:30—5:30 they will return with the photos for you to view. There is no obligation to buy, but remember, they make great Christmas presents for the grandparents.

Please know that your opinion is very valuable to us at NCCCC. We greatly appreciate it when parents bring their concerns to us directly so we can address them. You are welcome to stop in the office anytime, call on the phone (860)739-0877 or email us:

  • Kathy Tiller
  • Lisa Van Cura

You are also welcome to call and speak with your child’s teachers at the above number. The best time to reach them is during nap time from 1-3 PM.

I am replacing the suggestion box in the hall (I just need a drill that will go through cement blocks) soon to enable you to make suggestion anonymously if that is preferred.

I can’t say this enough… we want to know the positive as well as the negative. We can’t address issues if we are not aware. Please feel free to come to us anytime with any concerns. Thank you.

Please remember to give documentation of your child’s flu vaccine to our nurse. Thank you!

Invitation to Parents

NCCCC has an “Open Door Policy” This means you are welcome to visit anytime, contribute in classroom events or activities, read aloud to the children or share a project or family tradition.

If you would like to participate in your child’s room please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. You were your child’s first teacher and their continuing education is a team effort.

You are as welcome here as your child!

Gentle Reminder

Please remember to sign your child in and out on the attendance sheet everyday. This is another example of our friendly OEC State Licensing requirements. The first thing they do when they inspect is count heads and then our attendance sheets. And they need to reflect the correct numbers. Thank you for your help.

State Licensing now inspects every year and it is always a surprise. We just had our annaul inspection for this year in August. The results will be posted on the Bulletin Board in the hall (near the tuition box) for 30 days from the date of the inspection. Feel free to check it out.

Extra Clothes

Just a gentle reminder, please send your child to childcare with weather appropriate play clothes and shoes. We do a lot of painting and playing in the sand box and we don’t want your child to worry about getting dirty or ruining their clothes when they are learning through play. It also works much better if the children wear sneakers or shoes that they can run and jump in without them coming off while playing or injuring their feet.

Also, please check your child’s extra clothing bin to make sure their clothes are weather appropriate. It will start to get cool again soon and they may need a light jacket or sweater in the morning in order to feel comfortable outside.

Scholastic Book Orders

Please find attached to this newsletter the scholastic orders forms for the month of September. Each month You will receive these forms accompanying your newsletter. The due date will be the 15th of each month, Orders usually take less than a week to arrive. You can order on line (See accompanying letter or return your orders to the office for submission (please make your check out to Scholastic Books).

Scholastic Books are a very convenient and inexpensive way to share reading with your child. I know my girls had lots of Scholastic Books in their bookcase and so does my grandson. They also earn points for the center so NCCCC can earn free books with your purchase.

Fall Fund Raisers

As you know NCCCC is a small non-profit center and we depend upon fundraisers to do big, high cost projects. This year we put the fence cap up and are currently looking into replacing the interior fence of the playground. The Men’s Club from NCC church has already offered to install it for us.

Our first Fundraiser is the Midland Catalog fundraiser that will take place in the September. It is a great way to Christmas shop. Then in October we will have the Lyman Orchard Pie Fundraiser. They will arrive in plenty of time for Thanksgiving. We have done this fundraiser for 2 years now and my family can attest to the fact that their pies are delicious!!! All profits will go directly towards the fence replacement. In the spring we will need to purchase new sand and woodchips and there is some equipment in the center that we will need to replace soon as well.

We thank you in advance for any purchases you make personally or items that you sell to family, neighbors or co-workers. Your sales help make your child’s day at childcare a more pleasant one. Thank you!

Family Survey Results

Please find attached a copy of the Family Survey conducted in July . First of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who took the time to fill out the questionnaire. It helps us to know and hopefully correct any issues that are brought to our attention through the form. We can not fix a problem if we are not aware of it , so we greatly appreciate your opinion. In an effort to address the problems brought to light by the survey we would also appreciate volunteers to serve on a committee to help us come up with ways that may help us address these issues. It will be a one time meeting as I know how valuable your time is. We would like at least one representative from each classroom. The contribution of many minds make great decisions.

Again, thank you to everyone who takes the time to be involved in their child’s education!!!

Parent Representatives

NCCCC is seeking parents to volunteer as classroom representatives to help advise on our Program Improvement Plan for 2015 which will be based on the results of the Family Surveys done in July. We would like a representative from each classroom. This meeting can be set up to meet the needs of the parent’s schedules and should only have to occur once.

Thereafter the parents will help with Family Events and classroom activities but this can all be done through emails. I understand how valuable your time is and I am trying to respect that. One of the items brought up by the Family surveys was that parents are invited to participate in Center decisions. This is your opportunity to help make decisions that effect the Center. Requests were made last year but we re-ceived no responses. If you are interested in volunteering please see Kathy or sign up at the Open House and Pot Luck. Thank you.
